Preksha Dhami: A Flourishing Social Activist

Social activist Preksha Dhami is an 18-year-old BPH student from Dhangadi who is working for dignified menstruation and aware of people from social media in related issues like video making in a contemporary context. She describes herself as a good public speaker, social influencer, and writer.

Her Journey

Giving something to society is her passion. Preksha has been interested in helping people from a very small age. When she was in 10th grade, she was passionate about working in the sector related to dignified mensuration. She seeks help from NGOs but she cannot get help from them. This year, She has personally visited Achham and has given awareness to the women there. Additionally, She has also been giving knowledge to young girls about menstruation is normal to end the taboos. Through her workings, she was able to build a Friendly Environment by educating about menstrual health and hygiene.

Preksha said,” Restrictions during menstruation makes women feel low and psychologically weak. So by ending all these discriminations we can go one step nearer to stop gender inequality.” She has helped people through psychosocial support especially girls and women. She is one of the activists who’s fighting against Chau goth with the aim to change Nepali mindsets regarding menstruation.

Impact Created

Through her campaign, People feel easy to talk about periods and Many young girls have been motivated to stop all those barriers during bodily function and natural processes.

Preksha Dhami was selected among the 20 brightest young entrepreneurs, innovators, and game changers below the age of 20 in Nepal, for the year 2020. This annual list is the ultimate honor roll of young game changers reshaping Nepal for the better. The platform seeks to encourage the youths to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other youths in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.
